<p>The government has fixed an advance price of Rs 2,000 per tonne of sugar cane for the cane to be crushed at Pandavapura sugar factory and Mandya Mysugar factory, for the current season. <br /><br />It has also decided to provide an additional amount of Rs 100 for the cane supplied during last season.<br /><br />A meeting, presided over by the chief minister D V Sadananda Gowda at Home office ‘Krishna’, in Bangalore on Friday, was attended by sugar cane growers, elected representatives and Sugar Minister.<br /><br />Speaking after the meeting, Sugar Cane Growers Association president Kurubur Shanthakumar said that the price fixed at the meeting held on Friday is applicable to the cane growers belonging to Mysore and Mandya. <br /><br />Another meeting would be convened to fix the price for the cane growers of other regions, in the next 10 days, he said. The chief minister has also assured to increase the price if the sugar fetches more price in the market and disbursement of about Rs 900 crore pending amount to the farmers at the earliest, he said.<br /><br />Raitha Sangha president K S Puttannaiah expressed satisfaction over the price that has been fixed and added that the government has assured to convey their demands of removing sugar from the list of essential commodities, to the Centre. Home and Mandya district-in-charge minister R Ashoka said that the crushing of sugar cane would begin in the next three to four days at Pandavapura sugar factory and a profit of Rs 100 crore is expected. Sugar minister S A Ravindranath, farmer leader Kodihalli Chandrashekar, MLAs C S Puttaraju, Kalpana Siddaraju, P M Narendra Swamy and others were present at the meeting.</p>
