Illegal iron ore transport: Forest Minister Eshwar Khandre orders probe

Bengaluru: Forest Minister Eshwar Khandre has ordered an inquiry into reports that over 2,500 tonnes of iron ore were illegally transported from a mine belonging to National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC).

In a letter to the additional chief secretary of the department, the minister cited media reports stating four persons were arrested and about 2500 tonnes of iron ore were confiscated from two factories.

He said a team of three officials, led by an officer of the additional principal chief conservator of forest grade, should look into the matter comprehensively and submit a report within a week.
