Rs 400 core project will be undertaken in order to prevent landslides

Chikkamagaluru: Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda said that a grant will soon be released to undertake projects worth Rs 400 crore aimed at preventing landslides in six districts of the Malnad and coastal regions.

Chairing a review meeting with Revenue Department officials, the minister said, “Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has emphasised the need for capital investment to prevent the dangers posed by landslides.

In the first phase, works will be taken up to prevent landslides in residential areas.”

“In the second phase, priority will be given to works that prevent landslides affecting roads. The first phase of work must begin by October, immediately after the monsoon ends. Officials should complete all necessary preparations including tenders,” he said.

He added that there is hope of receiving funding from the Central Finance Commission as well.

The Minister stated that the processing of applications submitted by farmers for leasing up to 25 acres of plantation crops cultivated on encroached government land will begin after a joint survey is conducted.

An extended deadline has been provided to submit applications. Accurate information on forest and revenue land must be available, and the confusion needs to be resolved through a joint survey.

Only after which, will the process of application disposal be undertaken in a campaign mode, he said. Rules have been formulated by the Forest and Revenue Departments, and a circular has already been issued. The process is underway, and officials have been instructed to complete it at the earliest, he added.
