To take India to the top position, students must excel in the field of their choice and make the country proud,” said aerospace scientist Padma Bhushan B N Suresh.</p><p>Speaking at the 44th state conference of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) at Allamaprabhu ground in Shivamogga on Friday, Dr Suresh said India has achieved a lot. Yet, there is a lot to achieve. Education should be a weapon for students to succeed in their field of interest. </p><p>“India is at the top in the field of technology and exports. By our efforts, we have launched rockets and landed on the moon. Our defence system has also strengthened and we have emerged as a nuclear power. Economically, we are the fifth largest in the world. We are expected to be the third largest economy in another few years. India is all set to take a leap and emerge as one of the strongest nations,” Dr Suresh said and called upon students to propel the country towards this achievement.</p><p>He said Shivamogga has given many true leaders and great personalities to the country. Kuvempu is one of them. The messages of Kuvempu born in Kuppalli have reached the world today.</p><p><strong>Student strength</strong></p><p>ABVP former national president P V Krishna Bhat said that students have now got an opportunity to contribute to the nation’s reconstruction through ABVP. Many countries are caught in the vortex of various problems which is dangerous. However, students have the strength to address these problems.</p><p>He said that some students have come under the influence of communists. Communists look at students as future workers and not as nation-builders. Congress party also follows the same policy but ABVP did not follow any political party. No student organisation must be in the grip of political parties. Instead, they must correct political parties whenever they move in the wrong direction. With this policy, ABVP has grown into a strong individual power.</p><p>ABVP national president Rajsharan Shahi said ABVP fights on ideology. Student power has become a national power. Shivamogga is the confluence of Tunga and Bhadra rivers. It is the land where Akkamahadevi resided. It is a centre of knowledge and science.</p><p>In his introductory speech, reception committee president S N Nagaraj said education should shape our personality. So, there is a need to bring positive changes in our learning.</p><p>ABVP state secretary H K Praveen and Ravi Mandya also spoke on the occasion. Welcome committee general secretary K J Hemanth, Rajesh Shastri and Sudha were present. </p><p><strong>Formal inauguration</strong></p><p>Earlier during the day, Abhinava Shankar Bharati Swamiji of Sringeri Mahasansthan Mutt, Kudli inaugurated the conference by worshipping the cow and lighting a lamp. He called upon students to engage in nation-building by joining ABVP. </p>
