As part of the launching of ‘NEN Apsera - Entrepreneurship Week 2011’, Aspera members met Mayor Sandesh Swamy and gave ideas to tackle major problems affecting the city such as mosquito menace, solid waste management, rain water harvesting, parking woes and air pollution. <br /><br />In their presentations designed as part of ‘Ideas for India’, the delegation led by E-cell co-ordinators Rajendra Prasad and Roopa Priya gave a power point presentation with the solutions that could be taken by the Mysore City Corporation to improve the living conditions.<br /><br />Speaking to Deccan Herald, Aspera E-leader Sathyananda E R pointed out that the city could buy a Mosquito Killing System (MKS) to tackle the menace of malaria. <br /><br />He said that the MKS has been designed after conducting research for nearly 17 years. They said that by killing one mosquito nearly 2,000 can be prevented from being born.<br />While the Mysore City Corporation takes the easy route by dumping garbage on the outskirts of the city, the students observed that an Underground Waste Disposal System can be implemented to collect garbage. <br /><br />They pointed out that it would not only improve the quality of public waste disposal, but also gives a simple yet elegant way of storing trash.<br /><br />The Aspera team members observed that precious rain water was being lost due to the lack of rain water harvesting. They said that nearly 70 per cent of ground water can be recharged if the water is collected from rainfall.<br /><br />Parking woes<br /><br />The most pressing concern for residents is the shrinking parking space. They recommended the construction of multi-level parking lots to solve the problem. Citing examples of Crescent Tower in Mumbai, Oasis Plaza in Chennai they observed that such a parking lot would reduce the parking woes.<br /><br />Earlier, apart from brainstorming to help solve the problems plaguing the city, Aspera members gave a shot at learning Japanese. Apsera member Abhilasha M Revur said that one of the interesting aspects they learnt was that the Japanese script has 10,000 characters. She said that learning a foreign language is essential to succeed in the global world. It would always give an edge to an entrepreneur in a globalised market, she opined. <br /><br />Green Drive<br /><br />Despite hectic schedule, Aspera members distributed around 100 saplings in the city to improve awareness among public about the need for keeping the green cover intact.<br /></p>
