<p>Shivamogga: Expressing strong condemnation over the recent <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/india/jammu-and-kashmir/28-people-mostly-tourists-killed-as-terrorists-open-fire-in-jammu-kashmirs-pahalgam-3504892">terror attack targeting tourists</a> in the Pahalgam region of Kashmir, Union Minister <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/tags/pralhad-joshi">Pralhad Joshi</a> on Thursday said the 'inhumane' assault was aimed at derailing the Centre's reform initiatives, particularly efforts to promote tourism in the Valley.</p><p>Speaking to media after paying homage to the mortal remains of <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/india/karnataka/pahalgam-terror-attack-manjunath-raos-last-rites-in-shivamogga-today-3507392">Manjunath Rao</a>—one of the victims of the attack—Joshi stated that the Modi-led government has taken the incident seriously and would not tolerate the loss of even a single innocent life.</p><p>Joshi also noted that the central government had previously succeeded in curbing terrorist activities in the region, but fresh attempts to destabilize peace have emerged. “ The Centre has already taken five diplomatic steps against Pakistan to suppress it. The government of India will punish those who have caused pain to our people,” he said.</p><p>He called upon people to be united to face this situation and defeat terrorism in the country, transcending party, sect, caste and religion. “The entire country and the government will be with Manjunath Rao's family,” he added.</p><p>Several political leaders and dignitaries, including MP BY Raghavendra, MLAs SN Channabasappa, Sharada Poorya Naik, Legislative Council members DS Arun, Dhananjaya Sarji, District Congress Committee President R Prasannakumar, former MLAs Ayanur Manjunath, KB Prasannakumar, former MLC S Rudre Gouda, RSS leader Pattabhiram, paid their last respects.</p>
