Karnataka BJP leader R Ashoka cites DH report; demands govt order on dropping KSIC land for stadium

Mysuru: Leader of the Opposition R Ashoka posted a DH report published on March 13, about Karnataka government not coming up with an official order yet related to dropping the stadium project on the 5 acre land of T Narsipur KSIC raw silk reeling unit. 

On Friday, R Ashoka tweeted, "Even though Sericulture K Minister announced on the floor of the House (legislative assembly) that the proposal to build a stadium on the KSIC land at T Narasipura has been dropped, the land records still continue to remain with the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports. This delay is unnecessary and creates avoidable uncertainty for an institution that represents Karnataka’s pride-the iconic Mysore Silk."

"I urge CM Siddaramaiah to immediately transfer the land titles to the Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation (KSIC) and direct the Mysuru Deputy Commissioner to personally oversee and complete the process without further delay."

Demands Mysore silk city

He added, "At the same time, the Government must think ahead for the future of Karnataka’s silk sector. I urge the Karnataka Government to allocate 500 acres of land near the KSIC facility to develop a world-class 'Mysore Silk City'."

DH was the first newspaper which explored and exposed how the KSIC unit and Mysore silk brand itself will be under threat if the stadium comes up on that 5 acre land.

The newspaper came up with a series of 13 articles  based on documents and spot visit, highlighting all the angles comprehensively from February 14.

Followed by that, R Ashoka posted DH reports on X. He visited the KSIC weaving unit and T Narsipura unit and extended support to protesting employees. He even raised the issue in the Assembly on March 9.

Responding to it, Minister Venkatesh had announced the decision to drop Rs 6 Crore worth stadium announced by the CM in 2024-25 on KSIC land.
