Karnataka Cyber Command finds Rs 100 cr transaction in mule accounts

Bengaluru: The officials from the Karnataka Cyber Command, who analysed over 100 of the 42,000 mule accounts so far, found transactions of over Rs 100 crore. 

These 42,000 mule accounts were identified after the Cyber Command Centre (CCC) headed by Director General of Police (DGP) Pronab Mohanty launched raids on February 5 to identify and dismantle mule account networks in different parts of the state, used to launder proceeds of cybercrimes. 

Another suspect was also arrested, taking the total number of suspects arrested during the raids to 14. On Saturday, Mohanty held a press briefing regarding the raids and confirmed the developments. 

“Among the 14, investigators found that one suspect arrested in Shivamogga had 19 mule accounts, involving a money transfer of
Rs 11 crore. There are 96 cases registered on the NCRP in this regard, in which a loss of around Rs 55 crore was found. From the suspects, police also seized 18 passbooks, 25 ATM cards, seven cheque books, two mobile phones, and two QR codes,” sources said, adding that the investigators are also probing the possible role of State Level Bankers’ Committee (SLBC) and action will be initiated based on the findings.
