Karnataka federation to question inclusion of ‘ineligible’ castes in backward classes list

Bengaluru: The Karnataka State Federation of Suppressed Backward Castes, headed by actor-politician ‘Mukhyamantri’ Chandru, has decided to question the addition of “ineligible” castes to the Karnataka backward classes list in the High Court.

“To question in the High Court the addition of ineligible castes as backward classes by not accepting the O Chinnappa Reddy Commission report as it is,” K N Lingappa, honorary president of the federation and former member of the Karnataka State Commission for Backward Classes (KSCBC), said in a press note.

In a meeting of its office-bearers recently, the federation also decided to take the issue of providing reservation in local body polls to the High Court, and thereby ensure that political reservation is provided based on a ‘triple test.’

The forum also decided to constitute district-level committees in all districts, to register at least 500 members belonging to suppressed backward castes in each district to the federation, to organise a massive meeting in Bengaluru of all office-bearers of organisations concerning suppressed backward castes and printing 3 lakh pamphlets and distribute them in every village to communicate the aims and objectives of the federation to people living in villages.
