Karnataka MLAs flay Infosys again, call for action against IT giant

Bengaluru: IT major Infosys came under attack for the second time in the Karnataka Legislature for not utilising the land provided for industrial purpose “properly.”

Senior legislators, including the Chairman of the Legislative Council, on Tuesday demanded the state government to act against the IT giant for not utilising 40 acres of land provided to it at Hubballi, even after 10 years. In the year 2013, the government had allocated land to Infosys for the construction of its campus.

Senior BJP MLC S V Sankanur, while talking about the Global Investors Meet (GIM), informed the House about the land provided to Infosys and highlighted that the IT giant had not created promised number of jobs.

Another MLC Pradeep Shettar also accused Infosys of utilising the land for garden purpose and its employees using it for walking, jogging and partying!

When the Industries Minister M B Patil tried to convince the members by saying, “Representatives of the company have met me,”  Chairman of the House Basavaraj Horatti told the minister that the government should not sit quietly just because they were big people.

“This is a serious issue, action should be taken to withdraw the land,” Horatti stated.

Responding to Horatti, the minister assured the House of convening a meeting and initiating action. “I will convene a meeting immediately and take action...” Patil said.

Even during the Legislature Sessions in 2024, the issue was raised by various legislators both in the Assembly and in the Council.
