Karnataka transfers Mangaluru police commissioner, Dakshina Kannada & Udupi SPs

Bengaluru: Just a day after ordering the formation of a special action force to tackle communal incidents, the Karnataka government replaced the police commissioner of Mangaluru city as well as the Superintendents of Police (SPs) of the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.

The development also follows the two recent murders in Dakshina Kannada that stoked communal tensions in some parts of the coastal district.

Mangaluru city police commissioner Anupam Agarwal has been replaced by Sudheer Kumar Reddy, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP), Intelligence. Agarwal was transferred as the DIGP, Economic Offences, CID, relieving C Vamsi Krishna from the concurrent charge.

The government transferred Yathish N and appointed Arun K as the new SP of Dakshina Kannada. Yathish wasn’t allotted a posting. Interestingly, Arun K was the SP of Udupi, who was replaced with Hariram Shankar, SP, Intelligence.

The state government also replaced Iada Martin Marbaniang, the police commissioner of Belagavi city, with Borase Bhushan Gulabrao, DIGP, Cybercrime and Narcotics, CID.
