Karnataka's daily share of commercial cylinders up from 7k to 16k

Bengaluru: Food and Civil Supplies Minister K H Muniyappa on Monday said the LPG supply shortage will be partially resolved in Karnataka with the Centre increasing the daily share of commercial cylinders from 7,000 to 16,105. The allocation is however just 30 to 40% of the state’s daily requirement.   

“Of the total share, we will distribute 10,000 cylinders to hotels. Educational institutions and public healthcare centres will get 4,200 cylinders. About 1,200 cylinders will be reserved for airports and railway station canteens,” Muniyappa told reporters here.

He said establishments which want commercial cylinders must first register with GAIL Gas in a week’s time.  

Registration, he said, is a must to streamline distribution of commercial cylinders.

“If a commercial establishment has been using five cyilnders a day, we will provide them two. If a bigger facility has been using 30 cyilnders, we will give them 10. These facilities can use alternative fuel sources to run business without much disruptions,” the minister said. 

Muniyappa said there has been no problem with the supply of domestic LPG cyilnders.

“If the gas agency does not supply the cylinders for domestic use within 25 days of booking, citizens must register a complaint with the area manager of the gas distributing agency. By registering a complaint, the agency will get to know if suppliers are diverting cyilnders for commercial use,” he said. 

Over the past 10 days, Karnataka has distributed over 30.51 lakh domestic LPG cylinders and 67,641 commercial cylinders.

In addition, around 40,083 commercial LPG cylinders (761.655 metric tonnes) have been supplied under industrial and bulk categories, the minister said.
