KRV chief calls Governor 'mouthpiece for Hindi imperialist lobbies' over criticism of third-language grading system

Bengaluru: The Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) has condemned Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, accusing him of “overstepping” his constitutional bounds by intervening in the state’s education policy.

In a post shared on social media platform X, KRV state president TA Narayana Gowda criticised the Governor’s recent letter to the state government, which reportedly questioned the decision to introduce a grading system for the third language in the SSLC examinations.

Gowda defended the state’s right to periodically update its education system, stating that the shift to a grading system for the third language was made based on the recommendations of education experts, aimed at benefiting Karnataka’s students.

He further accused the Governor of “acting as a mouthpiece for Hindi imperialist lobbies” and challenged Gehlot to show similar concern for the promotion of Kannada in North India. “If you’re writing this letter as a common citizen, then first write to the chief ministers of North Indian states and demand that they include Kannada as a third language under the three-language formula,” Gowda remarked.

Threat of protests 

The KRV leader also warned of large-scale protests in Karnataka if attempts were made to “halt” the implementation of the new grading system. He called on the Governor to immediately withdraw the letter sent to the chief secretary.
