<p>The Karnataka State Bar Council (KSBC) has extended date of filing of application for Certificate of Practice (CoP) till May 30, 2016. The Bar Council of India has made it clear that there is no stay on the Certificate of Practice and Place of Practice (Verification) Rules, 2015, and that the last date for submitting the verification form is June 30, 2016.<br /><br /></p>.<p>Ashok Ramanagouda Patil, chairman of the Karnataka State Bar Council, said that the rules were framed long ago, but there has been a delay in the implementation. “It is our effort to weed out fake advocates from practising in various courts in the state. Many of them are law graduates but are not practising, and many women, who are qualified but are not practising, we are giving them an opportunity now to enrol themselves and get their CoP,” he added.<br /><br />The chairman said there are around 85,000 advocates enrolled in the KSBC. Of which, 25,000 are from Bengaluru City. Of the many enrolled, hardly 4,000 advocates are practising advocates in various courts in the state. So far, the KSBC has found at least 20 advocates, who are practising in various courts, fake and bogus persons.<br /><br /> Patil said that hardly 10,000 advocates have submitted their application for CoP till now and the State Bar Council is requesting the members to come forward and submit their application at the earliest. Harish S, member, Karnataka State Bar Council, said that the last date of submitting the application cannot be advanced by the State Bar Council as the procedure to scrutinise the application will begin after the last date. After the applications are scrutinised, the list of practising and non-practising will published, he added.<br /><br />How to apply for CoP<br /><br /> Law graduates who graduated before the year 2010, practising in the courts will have to provide documents of their vakalat for at least five years, one vakalat for each year.<br /><br /> Graduates after 2010 who have passed the All India Bar Examination will have to submit their renewal forms as they have received their CoP.<br /><br /> Non-practising advocates, like those involved in drafting legal documents, including sale deeds etc are conveyancing lawyers. <br /><br />They can produce the documents that they have drafted.<br />Notary lawyers can submit their notary certificates.<br /><br /><br /></p>
