KSPCB to issue closure notices to five Koppal factories

Koppal: A meeting of the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) has decided to issue closure notices to five factories in the taluk for allegedly polluting the environment and violating the norms. 

Accordingly, the notices would be issued to Allanagar’s Hospet Ispat Private Limited, Vanya Steels unit 1 and 2, HRG Alloys and Steels Private Limited of Hirekasanakandi and P Balasubbashetty Power and Steels Company of Halavarthi. 

Jilla Bachao Andolana Samiti and Parisara Hitharakshana Janti Kriya Vedike members have been staging a stir seeking quick action against the polluting factories for 179 days.

The villagers, who are facing problems due to the pollution, are also staging a protest. 

In 2024, the officials of the Bengaluru regional office of the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, following a direction from the ministry, visited the villages around the factories and submitted a report stating clearly that they are violating the norms.

The Board has taken note of this as well in the notice. Board’s Chairperson P M Narendraswamy had visited the spot and inspected the
situation.
