Lancet Commission to study rising sea level announced

Bengaluru: A new Lancet Commission was announced on Wednesday to study the impact of rising sea level on the life and livelihood of crores of people. 

The Lancet Commission on Sea-Level Rise, Health and Justice, convened with support from the WHO Asia-Pacific Centre for Environment and Health (WHO ACE), is aimed at providing evidence-based, science-led policy recommendations to mitigate health risks, strengthen adaptation and resilience and ensure equitable and ethical responses to the rise in sea level. The commission will bring together 26 commissioners, including its co-chairs, from across disciplines and regions, combining scientific expertise with policy insight, community perspectives and diverse knowledge systems. The Commission will analyse how sea-level rise reshapes health and wellbeing and deepens injustice, proposing actionable responses for governments, communities, and global institutions, as
announced in a Lancet commentary.
