<p>Mangaluru: The Lokayukta police in Mangaluru arrested a government surveyor and a middleman red-handed while accepting a bribe. </p><p>The complainant had been assisting his elderly mother in obtaining single-site maps and property cards for land owned in Kankanady and Bajal villages. </p><p>An application for the same was submitted at the Mangaluru UPOR (Urban Property Ownership Records) office in February 2025. Surveyor Nandeesh, who conducted the site survey in April, initially collected Rs 6,500 as a bribe and later received an additional Rs 20,000 through an middleman, identified as Divakar from Bejai, Mangaluru. </p><p>Despite these payments, the surveyor allegedly demanded a further Rs 18,000 to complete the process.</p><p>Concerned by the escalating demands, the complainant approached the Lokayukta police and filed a complaint, supported by evidence. A case was registered against both surveyor Nandeesh and the middleman Divakar.</p><p>In June 2025, Nandeesh reportedly received Rs 15,000 more through the middleman. The Lokayukta officials caught the surveyor red-handed while accepting an additional Rs 2,000 from the complainant, taking the total bribe amount to Rs 43,500.</p><p>The Lokayukta police have taken both Nandeesh and Divakar into custody for interrogation. The investigation is in progress.</p><p>The operation was executed under the guidance of Superintendent of Police (in-charge) Kumarchandra. The operation was led by Deputy SP Dr Gana P Kumar, Inspectors Suresh Kumar P, Bharati G, and Chandrashekhar KN. </p>
