Last Updated 21 April 2019, 16:38 IST

The KSRTC bus stand in town is finally being renovated at an estimated cost of Rs 89 lakh.

The work on the renovation is being accelerated. The KSRTC bus stand provides connectivity to Mysuru, Bengaluru and Mangaluru. Thousands of passengers visit it daily to travel to various destinations.

The Madikeri KSRTC bus stand comes under Puttur KSRTC division. The work on the roof is in progress. The old floor tiles are removed to lay granite and concrete flooring.

The work on the compound wall, electricity connection, seating arrangements for passengers, UGD works and painting of the wall of the bus stand are in progress.

The work on drinking water supply and toilet facilities has been completed, said Puttur Divisional Controller Deepak.

He said the roof sheets were damaged and rainwater was seeping into the bus stand during monsoon. Hence, the roof sheets are being replaced. The work will be completed within two months.

Madikeri KSRTC Unit Manager Geetha said, “A full-fledged bus stand will be developed. There are no UGD facilities around the bus stand, which has increased the mosquito menace. With the UGD work now moving forward, the system will be improved.”

Passenger Mahesh said, “Petrol and vehicle spare parts are stolen from the two-wheelers parked at the KSRTC bus stand. The authorities should deploy security personnel at the parking area.”
