<p>The tourism sector in Kodagu has been witnessing a surge in activities. Tourists have been arriving in the city, ready to ring in the New Year.<br /><br /></p>.<p>With the schools and colleges having Christmas holidays, the number of families visiting the tourist destinations in the district has increased. The tourist spots registered good footfall on Saturday and Sunday.<br /><br />There was heavy rush at Raja Seat in Madikeri since Sunday morning. The visitors were seen capturing the beauty of nature in their mobile phones. The footfall was high at Omkareshwara Temple, Olf Fort and Abbey Falls in the district.<br /><br />The visitors to Abbeyfalls had a harrowing time in passing through the narrow road leading to falls. At the same time, they were disappointed to see very little water in the waterfalls. A large number of tourists visited Bhagamandala, Talacauvery, Tadiyandamol, Dubare and Nisargadhama as well.<br /><br />With the increase in vehicles on the road, Madikeri town witnessed traffic congestion on Saturday and Sunday. The vehicles were seen moving in a snail’s pace in front of KSRTC bus stand.<br /><br />The district has over 3,000 homestays and majority of them have been booked for New Year celebrations. Even the hotel rooms have been booked in the district.<br /><br />For various reasons, there was a dip in tourist arrivals in the district in the last few years. With the occupancy and reservation rates in most hotels plummeted, the hotel owners are optimistic over tourism sector.</p>
