<p>Mandya: Writer Go Ru Channabasappa (GoRuCha) demanded that Kannada be made the medium of instruction in all schools in Karnataka up to 10th standard by providing better infrastructure and facilities.</p>.<p>Delivering his presidential speech at the inaugural session of the three-day 87th Akhila Bharatha Kannada Sahitya Sammelana in Mandya on Friday, he listed out a total of 21 issues and urged the government to act on them.</p>.<p>The demand from the nonagenarian writer comes at a time when the government is working on increasing the number of Karnataka Public Schools (KPS), which offer English medium education, from the existing 300 to 3,000 in two years.</p>.<p>He also demanded a national policy to solve the problems of medium of instruction, border areas, water disputes and migration and demanded that the Karnataka government pressure the Centre on this.</p>.Kannada Sahitya Sammelana: Go Ru Channabasappa lists 21 demands, urges govt to fulfil.<p>Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said the priority of the state government was to tackle three major problems -- injustice done by the Centre in devolution of taxes, imposition of Hindi and tampering with the Constitution.</p>.<p>Delivering the inaugural speech at the sammelana organised by Kannada Sahitya Parishad and Mandya District Administration at Rajamathe Kempananjammanni and Rajarshi Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar main stage on the outskirts of Mandya on Friday, Siddaramaiah said, his government is committed to protecting the interests of both Kannada and the people of Karnataka.</p>.<p>The sammelana started on a grand note with the hoisting of the national, Karnataka and KSP flags. GoRuCha was taken on grand procession from the Sir M Visvesvaraya statue of to the venue, six km away on the Mysuru-Bengaluru highway. Mandya, its suburbs and the procession route wore a festive look. Thousands of people took part in the event on the 70-acre venue. Academic and literary sessions on Kannada and Kannadigas were held on the main stage and two parallel stages, to discuss various aspects.</p>.<p>Cultural events, both folk and by popular artistes like Arjun Janya, Sadhu Kokila and Rajesh Krishnan, are being held, both before and after the sessions.</p>.<p>Free food distribution is another attraction of the sammelana, as a variety of north and south Karnataka dishes are being served. Stalls, especially of books, was another attraction. The sammelana, being held after a long gap of 30 years in Mandya, has turned into a tourist attraction, with people from both across the state and locals participating.</p>
