Man from Udupi loses Rs 29.68 lakh in investment scam

Udupi: A 41 year old man from Udupi has reportedly fallen victim to an online investment scam and lost Rs 29,68,973.

In a complaint to CEN station, he said on September 11, he received a message on Telegram from the user @Anjana_198_off, claiming to represent Royal Mint, described as an official UK government organisation.

The message promised lucrative returns on gold, silver coins, bars, and other gold-related products. Chandrakant was informed that by working as a “gold bidder” on this platform, he could earn between Rs 1,500 and Rs 5,000 per day using his mobile phone or laptop.

Believing the message to be genuine, he agreed to participate. Subsequently, he was provided with a link to the Royal Mint platform. Between September 18 and October 10, he transferred a total of Rs 29,68,973 to various accounts given by the unknown scammers.

However, the accused neither returned the money nor provided any promised profits. Based on the complaint, a case has been registered at CEN station under sections 66(c), 66(d) of the IT Act, and Section 318(4) BNS.
