Case booked for dumping construction debris into Phalguni river in Karnataka

Mangaluru: A case has been registered at the Barke Police Station following a complaint by the City Planning Officer of the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) regarding illegal dumping of construction debris into the Phalguni River near Sulthan Bathery.

According to the complaint filed on Friday, within the jurisdiction of Barke Police Station, large quantities of construction debris and soil were dumped into the Phalguni River near Sulthan Bathery between April 2, and April 7. The dumping was reportedly carried out using a vehicle.

Authorities stated that approximately 15 to 20 cents of government land was encroached upon by filling the river area with construction waste and soil. Based on the complaint, a case has been registered against the president of the Mogaveera Mahasabha and the owner of the lorry at Barke Police Station under Sections 324(5) and 329(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 2(a) and 2(b) of the Karnataka Prevention of Destruction and Loss of Property Act.

Police have seized the lorry used to dump the debris into the river, and further investigation into the case is currently underway.
