Karnataka: Woman delivers baby on board train at Bantwal station

Mangaluru: A pregnant woman passenger delivered a baby on board Train No 16586 Murudeshwar-SMVT Bengaluru Express when the train arrived at Bantwal Railway Station in Dakshina Kannada on Sunday.

According to officials from South Western Railway, when the train arrived at the station at 7:22 pm, the woman travelling in a general coach was found to be in distress and experiencing heavy bleeding. The Railway staff immediately alerted medical emergency services and arranged for an ambulance.

But before the arrival of the ambulance, the passenger delivered a premature baby boy inside the coach. The situation was handled with care and urgency by the train escorting staff, Aruna S S and Shankaramurthy, head constables. Both of them were the escorts of another train no 16512.

Following the delivery, the mother and newborn were shifted by ambulance to a private Hospital, Bantwal for further medical care. Both mother and baby are in stable condition. As the baby is premature, it is under medical observation.
