<p>Kalaburagi: The divisional-level job fair being organised by the Karnataka Skill Development Corporation here at the KCT Engineering College campus near Humnabad Ring Road on April 16 has offered candidates an opportunity to connect with the employers to find employment when youths in Kalyana Karnataka have been reeling under lack of skills.</p><p>This has raised hopes among unemployed youths as the job fair would facilitate them to have direct interaction with the industry representatives to showcase their skills beyond a resume.</p><p>The officials are expecting participation of over 25,000 candidates and around 275 companies from across the state and neighbouring Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra. Experts feel that skill development and job fairs should go hand-in-hand, as job fairs provide a platform for employers to connect with skilled individuals, while skill development programmes ensure candidates possess the necessary competencies for those jobs.</p><p>The government has taken several measures to improve skills among unemployed youths to meet the industrial needs. Kalyana Karnataka Region Development Board (KKRDB) has launched a 30-day entrepreneurship and skill development programme on several subjects including computer hardware, networking through the Skill Development Entrepreneurship & Livelihood Department and the Centre for Entrepreneurship Development of Karnataka (CEDOK). </p><p><strong>High skill training</strong></p><p>The demand for high-skilled jobs is 6% while its supply remains only 1% in Kalyana Karnataka region according to the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).</p><p>Meanwhile, the demand for mini-skilled jobs is 28%, while supply is 41%. Therefore, educationalists have emphasised the need to focus on providing high-skill training to youths. Meanwhile, Medical Education & Skill Development Minister Sharan Prakash Patil said, multi-skill development centres are being set up in Kalaburagi and Koppal to provide additional skills to students who have passed out from GTDC, ITI and engineering colleges to ensure more candidates get employment. Tender has already been called for this purpose, he said.</p><p>“The state government has taken several measures to improve the skills among unemployed youths in the region and job fairs are being organised at divisional headquarters. We will conduct such job fair at district level after seeing its response and will focus on providing the skills required for the future”, he said.</p><p><strong>CM to inaugurate</strong></p><p>Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will inaugurate the job fair at 11 am and AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge and other ministers will participate in it. The chief minister will also lay foundation stone for various projects including super-specialty hospital, branch of Bengaluru’s Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health, mother and child hospital, an additional 200-bed facility at Kidwai Cancer Hospital, a multi-skill development centre, a state-of-the-art auditorium with a seating capacity of 1,500 from Higher Education Department. </p><p>District In-charge Minister Priyank Kharge, Medical Education and Skill Development Minister Sharan Prakash Patil, KKRDB Chairman Dr Ajay Singh, Deputy Commissioner Fouzia Tarannum and other officials inspected the job fair venue on Tuesday. Police officials have made security arrangement to ensure smooth functioning of the event.</p>
