<p>Taking objection to National Highway Authority officials’ delay in completing various highway projects in the district, MP B Y Raghavendra took officers to task over delay in land acquisition process for highway projects and directed them to prioritise it to meet the deadline. </p><p>Reviewing various highway works here on Friday, MP Raghavendra pointed out to officials’ attitude while dealing with farmers of Kumsi village in Shivamogga taluk, who were ready to give up their land for highway works. He asked the officials to visit the gram panchayats where farmers are ready to give up their land for the road work and hold meetings with land owners over there.</p><p>He emphasised that officials must listen to issues being faced by these land owners during the land acquisition process and it must be dealt with amicably.</p><p><strong>Phodi work</strong></p><p>Drawing the meeting’s attention over phodi work, MP Raghavendra asked the officials to take up phodi work on priority before going ahead with land acquisition process to have smooth handover. Phodi process must be completed before going ahead with both railway and highway project work. </p><p>“Farmers should be taken into confidence without unnecessary delay in completing this important work. The compensation should be paid through the court,” he said and directed the officials to expedite land acquisition process by August end and submit a report with regard to it. </p><p>Following complaints of lack of surveyors to identify joint account holders of land acquisition, MP Raghavendra issued strict instructions to the Assistant Directors of Land Records of Sagar, Hosanagar and Shivamogga taluks to begin work immediately and complete the work within a week.</p><p>He set a deadline of July end to complete the full land acquisition process to assistant directors of Shivamogga, Sagar and Kundapur. </p><p><strong>Scientific compensation</strong></p><p>Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Gurudatta Hegde suggested the national highway land acquisition officers and the assistant commissioner of Shivamogga to expedite the process by consulting farmers and evolve scientific compensation to land losers.</p><p>He also suggested the officials to be courteous with the farmers. Surveyors required for the land acquisition work will be deployed soon to complete the process in a week, he promised.</p><p>He emphasised on quick disbursal of compensation to farmers who gave up their lands. </p><p>Issues of construction of a four-lane road from National Highway-69 Shivamogga to Anandapuram, construction of a railway flyover near Hosur and Talaguppa and progress of construction of a four-lane road in Sagar town were also discussed.</p><p>Besides, the MP reviewed two-lane road work from National Highway-766C Byndoor to Nagodi and construction of two heavy bridges and a two-lane road work near Hosanagar and Bekkodi.</p><p><strong>Pending works</strong></p><p>Also, construction of a bypass road in Shikaripur town, four-lane road work from Nellisara Camp on National Highway-169 to Thirthahalli town and construction of a two-lane road from National Highway-169A Megaravalli to Agumbe was also reviewed. </p><p>Chief Conservator of Forests Hanumanthappa, Deputy Conservator of Forests, Sagar and Shivamogga assistant commissioners, Assistant Director of Land Records, and officials of the National Highways Department were present.</p>
