JSS AHER to host workshop on generic drugs from April 23

Mysuru: The JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research (JSS AHER) is hosting a two-day international workshop on generic medicines on April 23 and 24.

The programme is jointly organised in collaboration with the Centre for Science and Technology of the Non-Aligned and Other Developing Countries (NAM S&T Centre), New Delhi, and the Indian Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (IACP), Chennai.

Addressing a press conference, in Mysuru, on Tuesday, JSS College of Pharmacy principal Dr T M Pramod Kumar noted that the institution has organised the event because India is one of the largest manufacturers of generic drugs, echoing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's description of the country as the ‘pharmacy of the world’. He added that the collaborative workshop is expected to host around 300 participants, besides several experts.

JSS AHER dean (academics) Dr Vishal Kumar Gupta stated that the workshop will feature six panel discussions. He explained that they will cover themes such as the future of generic drug development, manufacturing excellence, bioequivalence, safety, global regulatory pathways, intellectual property rights and societal impacts.

The inaugural function will begin at 10 am on Thursday at Sri Rajendra Auditorium, JSS Medical College. Dr Bobby George, vice-president and group head of Regulatory Affairs at Reliance Life Sciences, Mumbai, will be the chief guest. JSS Mahavidyapeetha executive secretary C G Betsurmath will preside over the event.

NAM S&T Centre Director General Dr Amitava Bandopadhyay, JSS AHER pro-chancellor B Suresh and vice-chancellor Dr H Basavanagowdappa will be guests of honour.
