<p>Mysuru: Describing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah as the ‘King of Records in imposing taxes’, the <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/tags/mysuru">Mysuru</a> city BJP has hit out at the Karnataka State government and the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) for burdening the citizens with a series of hikes in the new financial year.</p><p>In a press statement, BJP district (city) spokesman M A Mohan alleged that even as the state government has hiked the price for essential services like electricity and water, the MCC has further burdened Mysureans by increasing property tax by 5 per cent, based on guidance value.</p><p><strong>New vehicle cess</strong></p><p>BJP objected to a new ‘Motor Vehicle User Fee’ introduced for using city roads. Under this order, two-wheelers should pay a cess of Rs 100, Rs 200 for three-wheelers and Rs 500 for four-wheelers.</p><p>“The MCC is collecting a fee for road usage while it cannot even maintain the existing roads. Imposing taxes without providing basic facilities is objectionable," Mohan stated.</p><p><strong>Infrastructure woes</strong></p><p>Drawing a comparison to the era of the <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/tags/wadiyar">Wadiyar </a>Maharajas, Mohan noted that 24-hour water supply was provided for free or at a flat rate of Rs 20 per year. “Now, even with meters and high tariffs, the MCC is failing to provide regular water," he said.</p>.Mysuru auto drivers struggle as LPG 'no-stock', CNG also diminishing amid West Asia war.<p>He highlighted the 'stinking' state of the Mysuru’s drainage system, claiming that complaints regarding sewage blocks go unaddressed for days.</p><p><strong>Safety concerns</strong></p><p>Mohan also raised concern over the ‘unscientific’ underground cabling work for gas and electricity, being carried out across the city. He cited a recent tragedy in Ramakrishna Nagar (Vasu Layout), where an auto-rickshaw driver lost his life, due to negligence during cabling work.</p><p>“Officials give irresponsible answers to complaints. They are laying the underground cables without removing the existing poles and wires from the past four years.” he said.</p><p><strong>Demand for rollback</strong></p><p>The BJP has demanded an immediate withdrawal of the property tax hike and new vehicle cess. It stated that no new tax should be collected until the MCC provides motorable roads and basic civic amenities for the common man.</p>
