<p>Mysuru: Amid a surge in the cost of essential commodities, electricity tariff, and LPG cylinders, Vani Vilas Water Works (VVWW), the <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/tags/mysuru">Mysuru </a>City Corporation (MCC), has increased the water tariff for domestic connections by 30 per cent and UGD fee by 10 per cent from April 1, Wednesday. </p><p>With a revision in the <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/tags/tariff">tariff</a>, the minimum water charge is increased from Rs 125 to Rs 163. The slab of water tariff for every 1,000 litre has increased from Rs 5 to Rs 6.5 when the total consumption is up to 25,000 liters; Rs 8 to Rs 10 for consumption of 25,001 to 50,000 litres; Rs 12 to Rs 15 for consumption of 50,001 to 75,000 litres; Rs 16 to Rs 20 for consumption of 75,001 to Rs 1 lakh litres; Rs 20 to Rs 25 for consumption above Rs 1 lakh litre. The VVWW has increased the UGD fees from 30 per cent to 40 per cent of the total water consumption charges. </p>.Annual pain: Bengaluru water bills to rise by 3% from April.<p>For those who do not have water connection, the VVWW has fixed Rs 100 per unit of UGD connection for domestic purpose; Rs 200 for non-domestic purpose and Rs 300 for commercial purpose or industry. </p><p>As per the circular of the Municipal directorate, the VVWW has increased the water tariff. It was supposed to increase it in proportion to the electricity tariff hike, once every three years. But, it last hiked the tariff in 2012. Due to an increase in the cost of maintenance, electricity, salaries and others, they had to increase the tariff, VVWW officials said. </p><p>The expenditure of VVWW is about Rs 130 crore per year, but its annual collection is just about Rs 85 crore. With SFC (special grants) from the government, they could manage the electricity expenses. With tariff hike they are expecting Rs 15 to 20 crore additional revenue, officials said. </p><p><strong>Arrears</strong></p><p>About Rs 208 crore worth water and UGD bills arrears are pending. This includes arrears of Rs 1,44 crore from 1,62,424 domestic connections; Rs 13.73 crore from 3,753 commercial connections; Rs 5.49 crore from 269 industrial connections; and Rs 40.55 crore from 4,191 non-domestic connections. </p><p>The VVWW provides water to 1,71,637 connections under the MCC limits. As 280 MLD of water augmented from Kabini and Cauvery rivers is utilised for Mysuru city, they provide 200 liter per capita per day, officials added. </p><p>Mysuru Hotel Owners' Association president C Narayana Gowda said, "The rate of commercial LPG has been increased thrice, by Rs 497 from March 1 to April 1, for 19 kg cylinder. Besides, milk price was increased thrice in two years, from Rs 40 to Rs 48; electricity tariff was hiked by 2%, price of cooking oil has increased from Rs 110 to Rs 170 per litre in a year. Now, water and UGD fees has also increased which has increased cost of living". </p><p>"Besides a surge in the price of essential commodities, water tariff hike is another burden," said Prabha, a homemaker. </p>
