Traffic banned on old Nanjangud bridge in Mysuru; vehicles diverted to new route

Mysuru: To facilitate the reconstruction of the old bridge in Nanjangud across the River Kapila, and as a precautionary measure to prevent any untoward incident, the Mysuru district administration has banned the movement of vehicles on the structure, with immediate effect.

According to a press release by Deputy Commissioner G Lakshmikanth Reddy, the decision follows reports submitted by the Project Director of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Mysuru District Superintendent of Police.

New arrangement

Vehicles that used the old bridge earlier will now be diverted to the new bridge. This temporary traffic shift will be in place until the reconstruction work is completed on the old bridge or until further orders are issued.

Legal enforcement

The Deputy Commissioner has invoked powers vested under Section 115 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and Rule 221 (A)(5) of the Karnataka Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, to enforce this diversion. Commuters are requested to follow the new route and cooperate with the authorities, to ensure smooth traffic flow during the reconstruction period.
