The weeds that have grown on both sides of the steps mars the beauty of the place.<br /><br />The adventurous few who like reach the top using the steps are exposed to risks as there are no safety measures. It also poses a hazard to those villagers who come to graze their cattle or collect firewood, in case their lose their balance.<br /><br />Favourite haunt<br /><br />Every day Nandi Hills has thousands of visitors from Bangalore and other parts. However, only the villagers of Sultanpet and the surrounding villages are aware of the approach to the hills through the steps.<br /><br />Those who come from Bangalore and other palces by car or two-wheelers are now aware of the steps used by the villagers. According to a historical reference 1,775 steps were constructed leading to the fort.<br /><br />“In the past people used only the steps to reach the top and they were in good conditions. But now they are in a bad condition and have lost their shape”, says K M Reddappa, teacher and trekker. <br /><br />Senior citizens, sportsperson, trekkers and adventurers always take the steps to Nandi Hills. However, there is no safety measures like railings. There is no seating arrangements to take rest en route to the top. <br /><br />Many times there is an apprehension of losing one’s balance and falling down.“An appeal has been made to the Deputy Commissioner in this regard”, says Reddappa.<br /></p>
