Chaos and confusion prevailed at the monthly meeting of the council of Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC), over modernising the Kudroli abattoir, on Wednesday.
BJP corporators demanded to shift the abattoir from Kudroli to outskirts of the city and developing a state-of-the-art abattoir. Raising the issue, member Sudhir Shetty said they were not against the abattoir; only that it must be upgraded.
The Kudroli abattoir should not be modernised under the Smart City Project by spending Rs 15 crore, he added. The abattoir issue led to heated arguments between opposition, ruling party members and BJP corporators.
Close toll gate
The MCC council resolved to write to the government to merge Surathkal tollgate with Hejamady tollgate.
Members of various organisations have been demanding the closure of tollgate at Surathkal and are staging an indefinite protest for the last 10 days at Surathkal.
The distance between Surathkal tollgate and the Hejamady one is only nine kilometres, the council members pointed out.
