Local residents rescued the pangolin at Chikkadiganahalli in Hunsur taluk on Sunday night. They handed it over to the Forest department, said, RFO Sandeep. The pangolins are on the verge of extinction and are usually poached to be sold illegally, for their supposed medicinal value.

A few persons found the pangolin in an unused well and rescued it with the help of the fellow residents. The pangolin has been released into the protected forest in Melkote, Mandya district, Sandeep said. Pangolins are usually found in rocky areas, where it is warm. It is also called ant eaters, as it feeds on ants, he said.
