<p>It was the then ruler Mummadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar who first posed before the camera of a foreign lensman, heralding the beginning of the medium of art here, recalled journalist Echanur Kumar here on Friday.<br /><br />He was speaking at the World Photography Day organised by the Mysore District Journalists Association (MDJA) at its premises in the city.<br /><br />Saying that photography was the extended version of artistes who were drawing portraits, Kumar said that the Mysore palace still has an exclusive photo studio.<br /><br />MP H Vishwanath the chief guest said it’s impossible to think of the world sans media especially photo journalists. For many seeing their photos published in newspapers is the greatest moment of their lives and the credit again goes to the hands behind the same. For politicians too, it’s the same feeling. <br /><br />Earlier the event got an apt start with noted cinematographer H C Venugopal clicking the photo of the dignitaries. In his quick address, he greeted the fraternity for the occasion.<br /><br />Photographer M N Basavanna (Anurag) from print media- stringer of Deccan Herald and Prajavani and cameraman G Sudhindrakumar from visual media were felicitated for the service rendered in the realm.<br /><br />In his welcome address, MDJA general secretary K Deepak traced the history of photography to 18th century.<br /><br />Association president C K Mahendra, vice-president (urban) Pragathi Gopalakrishna and others were present.</p>
