Police constable stages suicide attempt to avoid bandobast duty in Karnataka

Police constable had been deployed for bandobast duty since two months and had returned to duty on Wednesday after two days of leave.

Belagavi: A police constable from the Udyambag police station staged a dramatic attempt to end his life by allegedly consuming poison. However, after medical examination at a private hospital, it was confirmed that he had not ingested any toxic substance.

He was discharged late on Wednesday night. The police constable has been identified as Mudkappa Udagatti. He had been deployed for bandobast duty since two months and had returned to duty on Wednesday after two days of leave.

As he was again deployed for bandobast duty, he objected for it and staged drama of consuming poison and collapsing in the police station premises.

Police Commissioner Iada Martin Marbaniang told DH that the police constable entered into altercation with station house officer over his deployment for bandobast duty and collapsed. He was admitted in private hospital near police station for treatment.
