Police open fire as accused tries to escape after attacking cops in Hassan

Hassan: Police opened fire on an accused, who tried to escape after attacking the cops in Hassan, on Thursday night.

The accused, identified as Manu, suffered injuries on his leg. He has been admitted to the Hassan district hospital for treatment.

Manu had waylaid a car and even damaged the windshield of a private bus with a sword in the outskirts of Hassan city on Wednesday night. The bus conductor had recorded a video of this, which had gone viral on social media.

Police acted swiftly and arrested Manu on Thursday. They were bringing the accused in a vehicle when he told the police that he wanted to attend nature's call, near Shantigrama, in Hassan taluk.

It was at this time, he tried to escape after attacking the police personnel. Police opened fire on his leg, and took him into custody. He is now undergoing treatment.

Manu is accused in one murder case and three murder attempt cases, according to police.
