<p>In a shocking incident, a couple tried to sell their newborn baby, here, on Saturday.<br />Jagadish and Ranganayaki, residents of Hariharapura village, K R Pet taluk, tried to sell their two-day-old daughter, owing to extreme poverty.<br /><br />Poverty<br /><br /></p>.<p>Jagadish had turned blind, a few years ago, and was being looked after by his second wife Ranganayaki. She worked as a daily-wage labourer to support her husband and a daughter, born to the first wife of Jagadish.<br /><br />Ranganayaki giving birth to a girl child was a cause for worry for the couple and they decided to sell their new born.<br /><br />A social worker alerted hospital authorities about the couple’s attempt to sell the baby. <br />Police and officials from the department of Women and Child Welfare visited the hospital and convinced the couple against selling the child.<br /></p>
