Potholed roads a nightmare for residents of Mandalpatti

Last Updated 31 July 2018, 18:15 IST

Potholes, gravel stones and slush on K Nidugane-Kaluru Road leading to the tourist spot, Mandalpatti, has become a nightmare for vehicle riders. The road is neither fit for the movement of vehicles nor pedestrians.

In the backdrop of the pitiable condition of the road, villagers of Kaluru have warned of observing August 15 as Black Day, as a mark of protest.

The road has been totally ruined after the monsoon rains. Elders, pregnant women and also children hesitate to travel on the road, fearing a bumpy ride. Schoolchildren have been facing a huge inconvenience.

However, the elected representatives and the concerned department have turned a blind eye towards the problem.

Kaluru villager Raju said that the organisations and the people of the village have decided to carry out a united fight against the lethargic attitude of the concerned authorities.

“The administration is unable to repair the connecting roads. No development work has been carried out during the last 15 years. Large sized potholes from Devasturu bridge to Karera Mane in a stretch of 2km have been posing hurdles for vehicular movement. Accidents have been a common phenomenon,” said a villager, Timmaiah.

Villagers said that earlier, they spent Rs 18,000 from their pocket to repair the road by filling potholes.

Even though memorandums have been submitted to the MLA and the Gram Panchayat President, there has been no action.

KSRTC buses have stopped ferrying passengers, owing to the pathetic condition of K Nidugane, Hebbettageri-Devasturu and Mandalpatti. The move by the KSRTC has inconvenienced schoolchildren and officegoers.
