<p>The dilapidated condition of Pallatharu Government Higher Primary School is posing a threat to students. <br /><br />The school offers education up to Class 7 and does not have a permanent teacher. As the roof of a portion of the building is on the verge of collapse, the school development and monitoring committee has placed a wooden log under the roof to ensure that it will not collapse. The classroom where the roof is on the verge of collapse has been locked. <br /><br />Some classrooms do not have doors while windows are termite-ridden. Due to lack of basic facilities, seven students have obtained transfer certificates and have shifted to other schools. At present, the school has 54 students. If the situation continues, then parents of other children will admit their wards to better schools, SDMC president Yuvaraja Gowda Banari said. <br /><br />Some doors are hanging in the classrooms. Without proper doors and windows, the students have to endure mosquito menace. As a result, the schoolchildren are forced to sit by burning mosquito coils in the classrooms. <br /><br />The toilet complex is in a deplorable condition without proper doors. As toilets are not conducive for use, both boys and girls have to use a single toilet constructed for physically challenged children. <br /><br />The school has been neglected by elected representatives and the education department though regular meetings are held to discuss the problems of the schools in general. <br /><br />As per the records, the school should have had four teachers. Unfortunately, three guest teachers are running the show. When the SDMC members and parents staged a protest at ‘Shaala Prarambhotsava,’ the department deputed Savanoor Government School physical education teacher to the school. <br /><br />GP member Nazeer Devasya has warned of staging a protest, if the authorities fail to take measures to solve the problems of the school.</p>
