<p>Mangaluru: Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker U T Khader and Mangalore constituency MLA said that work on a protective wall to protect the sea shore streching from Batapady to Someshwara from sea erosion will be taken up at the earliest.</p><p>The state government in its budget has announced Rs 200 crore to mitigate sea erosion across the coastal belt. “A meeting of the concerned officials will be convened shortly to discuss the steps to be taken to check sea erosion. Batapady area in Mangalore constituency has been severely affected by sea erosion. The NITK has suggested construction of a sea wall to check the coastal erosion. Further, a tender will be floated to take up works to check sea erosion on a few locations from Kotepura to Someshwara stretch,” he said.</p><p>He said though off shore reefs were laid under ADB project to check coastal erosion in Ullal area, these reefs need maintenance annually. The Port department has no funds to take up maintenance. This year, Rs five crore has been sanctioned for the maintenance, he added.</p>.Recliners for Karnataka MLAs’ post- lunch nap this budget session: Speaker U T Khader.<p><strong>Border security</strong></p><p>Modern technology including Artificial Intelligence should be utilised to provide security in the border areas. “A project proposal to strengthen the border of Mangalore constituency (which shares its border with Kerala), using modern technology including laser cameras, has been prepared. As per the proposal, a command centre will be set up for the surveillance of the cameras across the border in the constituency. The proposal aims to check crimes in the constituency. Further, police should also take tough action against those engaged in illegal activities and elected representatives should support the police action,” he said to a query on seizure of arms and ammunition from five accused involved in ganja peddling.</p><p> He urged the police to thoroughly investigate the case of seizure of arms and ammunition.</p><p>Khader said that the state budget has announced a women’s PU college in Ullal. “After I became MLA of the constituency, four Government PU colleges have been set up in the constituency. There was a demand for a women's college in the constituency, which has been realised. Further, the budget has also sanctioned residential PU college in the constituency, which will be upgraded into degree college after two years. A PU College for minorities too has been sanctioned in the budget,” he informed.</p><p>On budget sanctioning medical college to Puttur, he said the upgradation of the hospital in Puttur will benefit the people from Puttur, Sullia and Belthangady and will reduce the pressure on Wenlock Hospital.</p>
