Quantum city to be ready by 2028, says Karnataka Minister Boseraju

With a vision to establish Karnataka as a global epicenter of Quantum Technology, the state government is aiming for significant developmental milestones in the construction of 'Quantum City' by the year 2028, stated Minister for Minor Irrigation, Science, and Technology, N S Boseraju.

Speaking after a physical inspection of the 6.23 acres of land allotted for Quantum City near Hesaraghatta, the minister emphasised that Karnataka is already a national leader in the quantum sector and is now moving toward large-scale execution.

Advanced Infrastructure & PPP Model

The proposed Q-City is envisioned as a world-class hub that will house pilot fabrication lines, common computing infrastructure, and cutting-edge research labs. It will also provide dedicated workspaces for startups and advanced incubation facilities to nurture the next generation of deep-tech entrepreneurs.

"Our government has already released a comprehensive Quantum Roadmap to foster research and innovation. Deliberations with the Quantum Task Force, led by Prof. Arindham Ghosh of IISc, and other key stakeholders will commence shortly to explore an effective Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model for this project," the minister explained.

Following the site inspection, the minister visited the International Centre for Theoretical Sciences (ICTS) campus. He engaged in deep-tech consultations with resident scientists to understand future technical requirements, asserting that ICTS will play a pivotal role in the scientific evolution of Quantum City.

The visit was attended by Sadashiva Prabhu (MD, K-STEPS), Veerabhadra Hanchinal (PS to the minister), Prof. Rajesh Gopakumar (Director, ICTS), Prasanna (Project Head, ICTS), and other senior officials.
