The budget 2009-10 provided a provision for establishing railway medical colleges in 14 centres across India. These colleges can be established in a phased manner,” Verma told Deccan Herald. <br /><br />He added that land was not an issue. Railways has identified 18 acres of land near Ashokapuram railway station. Though, Medical Council of India (MCI) stipulates for a minimum of 25 acres of land, the Board has assured to convince the MCI to approve the project for Mysore on available land. <br /><br />Members of Railway Employees Association are sore that the project is delayed so much despite K H Muniyappa, a MP from state is Union Minister of state for railways. They also slam MP Vishwanath. “Both Muniyappa and the MP are silent on the issue and are not pushing for the project,” a member said. <br /><br />PPP model <br /><br />The then Union Railway Minister Mamatha Banerjee had announced that medical colleges in public-private-partnership (PPP) model would be established by railways. <br /><br />Accordingly, the railways would give the land to private institutions and hospitals after inviting expression of interest (EoI) from the interested parties. The applicants should pass request for formal proposal (RFP) to start work on campus and the building. <br />Surprisingly, official sources revealed that the railway board has not even conducted a feasibility study so far. Though, a feasibility study was given to a consultant, it was scrapped following a contractual problem.<br /><br /> While, five out of 14 cities like Kharagpur, Guwahati, Lucknow are leading other cities with some progress. The Board has called for EoI in four cities, whereas the process is in RFP stage in Kharagpur. Kharagpur will be first city in India to have the Railway Medical College. <br /><br />Sources said that JSS institution and Vikram Hospital have evinced interest to bag the project. JSS runs a medical institutions - medical, dental and pharmacy colleges under JSS University.</p>
