Shobha promises pay revision for engineers

Speaking at the inauguration of guestrooms and auditorium at KEB Engineers’ Association on Saturday, she said the file related to revision of pay scales was with the Finance Department.

Shobha also said the department would be creating new divisions and would take steps to effect promotions in the department.

Better power supply

The department was mulling over setting up 22 additional stations in the City to ensure better supply of electricity, she said.

Noting that the government had supplied more electricity than the previous years for agricultural purposes, she said that farmers had been able to cultivate sugarcane in 60 acres as opposed to 40 acres earlier.

Rise in production

“The production of coffee has also increased as opposed to the earlier years,” she said.
The minister expressed concern over the reluctance of engineers to be transferred and requested them to volunteer for transfers. She promised the government was committed to providing free power to farmers and would continue to do so, even at the cost of increased costs.

The engineers are ready to be transferred, but the government has come out with a uniform policy on transfers, President of the Engineers Association L Ravi said.

Deterrent

Quoting examples, Ravi said a one year posting to Gulbarga would be extended for three years or more and this deterred engineers.

He also called for imparting better communication skills to linemen, as they interacted with customers more than engineers.
