<p>This is likely to be submitted to the Government of India, said D A Venkatesh, Commissioner for Textiles, Government of India, on Friday.<br /><br />Welcoming representatives from the textile industry, A B Joshi, Textile Commissioner, Ministry of Textiles, pointed out the steady growth of textile industry in India. “During this year, the country’s total spun yard production has recorded a growth of 7.3 per cent and the total cloth production has recorded a growth of 3.1 per cent,” he added.<br /><br />Joshi said the aim of the extension of SITPs was to reassess and reorient the growth strategy and make the Indian textile industry a world-class entity.<br /><br />“The Union Cabinet has approved the extension of SITP with an additional investment of Rs 500 crore and the first installment will be granted in March 2011,” said V Srinivas, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Textiles. The Scheme for Integrated Textile Parks was launched by the Government of India in September 2005.<br /><br />There are 40 SITPs across nine states in India approved by the Government of India with a total investment of approximately Rs 20,000 crores. The textile parks are expected to provide employment to 10 lakh people and earn a revenue of approximately Rs 33,000 crore per annum. Out of these 40 textile parks, production work has already commenced in 25 parks.</p>
