Sri Rama Sene leader to distribute shawls to schools, colleges from June 1 amid Karnataka govt's hijab ban rollback

Davangere: Sri Rama Sene founder Pramod Muthalik said that they have decided to distribute saffron shawls to all schools and colleges in the state from June 1 in protest against the state government's decision to allow Muslim students to wear hijab inside the classrooms.

Addressing media persons, here on Thursday, he said, the Congress, which faced opposition from the Muslim community for the denial of ticket in Davangere South assembly constituency during the bypolls, is now playing politics of appeasement.

With the aim of winning the hearts of the Muslim community, it has allowed female students to come to schools and colleges wearing hijab. "I completely oppose to this decision of the government," he said.

He said the government has formulated the uniform policy so that there should be no discrimination among students. Wearing hijab is against the uniform policy.

"There is no objection to wearing hijab up to the entrance of schools and colleges. However, if you wear hijab inside the educational institution, you can easily identify your religion. Why this discrimination?" he questioned.
