SSLC: Karnataka invites suggestions, objections on 3rd language grading system

Bengaluru: The government has issued a draft notification inviting objections, within seven days, about its decision to award grades for the Third Language subject in the SSLC examination. 

From this year’s SSLC examination, the marks obtained in Third Language subjects such as Hindi, Urdu and Kannada as well as the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF), will not be considered for the overall results.

Any objections or suggestions regarding this draft notification may be submitted to the Additional Chief Secretary, Department of School Education and Literacy, Room No. 663, 6th Floor, 2nd Gate, Multi-Storey Building, Dr B R Ambedkar Veedhi, Bengaluru–560001.

The government has stated in the draft notification that objections or suggestions received before the deadline will be duly considered.

Max 525 marks

The SSLC examination is conducted for a maximum of 625 marks so far, but hereafter it will be conducted for a maximum of 525 marks, as already announced by School Education and Literacy Minister Madhu Bangarappa.  

Accordingly, in the draft notification, Grades A, B, and C will be awarded based on the marks obtained in Third Language and NSQF subjects.

Those scoring between 80% and 100% will be awarded Grade A, those who score between 50% and 79% would get Grade B, and the students who obtain up to 49% would be awarded Grade C. Though the minister had earlier mentioned four grades, it has now been decided to award only three.  

Pass/fail status

The grades for Third Language and NSQF will be mentioned in the marks card as additional subjects and will not be considered for pass/fail status. 

To be declared as passed, candidates must secure at least 33% marks in both the internal assessment and the external examination combined.

Out of the total 525 marks, a minimum of 173 marks must be obtained, along with at least 30% marks in each subject individually.
