<p>Kalaburagi: Indian Space Research Organisation Chairman and Department of Space Secretary Dr V Narayanan has exhorted the students to develop leadership qualities and calculated risk-taking ability apart from team work with win-win approach.</p><p>Addressing the 8th convocation of Central University of Karnataka at Kadaganchi village of Aland taluk on Tuesday, he said that a person who uses his imagination and creativity will overpower the one who has more resources.</p><p>Stating that the intellectual education influences the mind, whereas, the value-based education influences the heart, he said that a person with high academic record with intellectual education and bankrupt value-based education, is of no use to the society. “The success, both personal and professional depends on how we think, how we act and what we believe in. The students should develop inner strength of character and should be always honest and thrustworthy”, he said.</p><p>Pointing out that self confidence and self motivation is another important requirement for success, he said that ‘can do approach’ is an essential requirement for reaching greater heights. The students should be persistent in achieving their goals, he said.</p><p>“The students should dream and aim for greater things. You have to set high targets and work for it. Dreams are internal monitors and powerful tools of an individual to achieve his goals. You have to be imaginative, innovative and creative. You have to excel in your profession and to reach greater heights in the life and contribute for the betterment of the society. You should learn continuously to update knowledge”, he explained.</p><p>Self sufficient</p><p>He also said that the progress made by India during 77 years of Independence is phenomenal as the nation has become self-sufficient in food production after the Green Revolution. In the health sector, the country has world class hospitals and doctors which has increased the average life span of Indians from 32 years to 71 years. It has grown by leaps and bounds in science and technology since Independence, he added. </p><p>“The Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) was also a well acclaimed mission and we were the first country that successfully accomplished this in the first attempt. India holds the record of placing in orbit 104 satellites in a single launch in the very first attempt. We have also launched 433 satellites of 34 foreign countries and 13 student satellites. Chandrayaan-1 Mission became the first mission in the world to find the presence of water on moon”, he said. A total of 36 students who scored the highest marks in various subjects were awarded gold medals and as many as 824 candidates received undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, while 38 individuals were awarded PhD degrees. In electronics engineering, Bura Mastan Vedasai got two gold medals. University Vice-Chancellor Prof Battu Satyanarayana, Controller of Examination Kota Sai Krishna, Registrar R R Biradar and others were present.</p>
