<p class="bodytext">The much-awaited renovation works on the swimming pool of the University of Mysore (UoM), in Saraswathipuram in the city, are almost complete and the pool would be open by month end.</p>.<p class="bodytext">The pool was a favourite place for all swimming enthusiasts at a time when there were only a couple of public swimming pools. At present, even though the international standard swimming pool at the Chamundi Vihar Stadium is ready, it is yet to open for public use, due to some reasons.</p>.<p class="bodytext">The Mysuru City Corporation pool at the Freedom Fighters Park is defunct for almost a decade.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Not many people are comfortable with the pools in hotels and resorts, some of which are on the outskirts of the city. The renovation of the UoM pool was launched in March 2017.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Except for Bengaluru, the highest sports events are held in Mysuru and many swimmers of the city and city institutions have won in various state and national-level championships, over the years. As the UoM pool was closed a couple of years ago, as it needed some repair works, swimmers were inconvenienced.</p>.<p class="bodytext">P Krishnaiah, in-charge director for Physical Education, UoM, said that while works on the audience gallery and other structures are under progress, steps have been taken to fill the pool with water. "Now, the gallery can accommodate 500 spectators. Separate bathrooms for men and women and dressing rooms have been constructed. Advanced water purifying system has been installed. The fee will vary for different categories like children, students, sportspersons, and others. A decision will be taken in this regard in a meeting, scheduled to be held on February 19," he said.</p>
