<p>Speaking at the district-level high school teachers and State-level office-bearers convention organised by Karnataka State High School Assistant Teachers Association here on Friday, he said: “We have not discussed on the loopholes in our education system. Many a time the issue of status of education sector is half discussed in the Session. Even the education conventions do not discuss much on the status of education system in length.” <br /><br />When MP Pranab Mukherjee had proposed the issue of sex education for primary school children at a convention, I had opposed the proposal and said “students will gain if moral education is imparted to the students instead of sex education.” <br /><br />There is a need to discuss on what should be taught to the children, what should be in the education and what should not be included? <br /><br />He said “Indian history is large, which has a beautiful tradition. Even after 63 years of independence, we have not discussed on teaching the children the history of success.” <br />Assembly Speaker K G Bopaiah said the government should come forward to change the education system based on local needs. In this background, special emphasis should be given to the problems being faced in Kodagu district. <br /><br />He said there is a need to discuss on the reason for decline in respect for teachers. <br />MLC M C Nanaiah said about 50 per cent of the government employees are teachers in the State. There are 69,000 schools in the State and one crore children. There are lot of difference between the education system of the past and present. In spite of implementing Right to Education, about 14 per cent of the children remain outside the portal of the schools. The district has reached fifth position from seventh position in the SSLC results. <br /><br />He said “the district should secure first place in the SSLC examination. Of the 49 aided high schools, 6 have secured cent per cent results. I will not speak on unaided high schools. However, I will accept this result.”<br />“In spite of the government making all efforts to provide facilities to the teachers, I am not happy with the results,” he added</p>
