Temperatures skyrocket in Dakshina Kannada as Sullia boils at 40.1 degree Celsius

According to the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC), Sullia Hobli recorded the maximum temperature in the state at 40.1°C between 8:30 am on February 28 and March 1.

Mangaluru: Heatwave is likely to prevail over coastal Karnataka till Sunday and Dakshina Kannada district will continue to experience humid conditions, with rise in temperatures.

According to the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC), Sullia Hobli recorded the maximum temperature at 40.1°C between 8:30 am on February 28 and March 1.

Several locations in DK and Uttara Kannada districts also reported maximum temperatures between 39 degree Celsius to 40.1 degree Celsius.

DK Panemangalore (Bantwal) recorded 39.1 degree Celsius, Uppinangady saw 39.5 degree Celsius, and Kadaba 39 degree Celsius.

KSNDMC’s weather monitoring network recorded temperatures above 39 degree Celsius at four locations. However, the maximum temperatures remained near normal (-1.5°C to 1.5°C) across the state.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a heatwave warning for March 2 in Coastal Karnataka. Hot and humid conditions are expected to persist till March 3.

With relative humidity between 40-50 per cent and maximum air temperatures ranging between 37-38 degree Celsius, the perceived temperature that a human body can tolerate is expected to be between 40-50 degree Celsius.

IMD also predicts no major changes in maximum and minimum temperatures across South Interior Karnataka for the next five days.

In North Interior Karnataka, temperatures will remain stable for the next three days before decreasing.
