Thunderstorms continue to lash North Karnataka districts

Bengaluru: Showers, with thunder and lightning and gusty winds, continued to pound many districts in north Karnataka, for the third consecutive day, on Wednesday.

Sudden and intense hailstorm lashed Chincholi taluk in Kalaburagi district in the evening. Hailstones had turned roads and fields at several villages, including Ainapur and Chandankera, into a snowy landscape. It damaged horticultural crops.

Several villages in Kukanur taluk of Koppal district also witnessed a sharp spell of hailstorm. Hulsur in Bidar district experienced intense rainfall in the evening.

Hubballi and Dharwad continued to witness rain, accompanied by thunder and lightning. Gusty winds brought down many trees in the two cities. Waterlogging caused hardships to commuters.

The body of a farmer was found at his farm at Kallihal in Haveri taluk on Wednesday. Fakkirappa, a native of Kallihal village, is suspected to have died in a lightning strike on Tuesday evening. Haveri town and parts of the district received thundershowers.

Heavy rain in catchment area and water release from Bhadra has swollen Tungabhadra river. Hammige barrage in Mundargi taluk got 3,500 cusec inflow Tuesday.

Motorists wade through waterlogged PB Road at Vidyanagar in Huballi. The Hubballi-Dharwad twin cities experienced heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in the evening.
